Divine Timing
By Natalie Parffrey, LPC · Cypress, TX
Sometimes divine timing arrives as something beautiful.
A door opens. An answer comes. The path suddenly feels clear.
Something falls into place at exactly the right moment, and we can finally understand why certain things had to happen the way they did.
But sometimes divine timing does not feel beautiful.
Sometimes it arrives as discomfort.
The discomfort that comes with realizing something no longer fits. A relationship, a routine, a place, a job, or even a version of ourselves we have outgrown.
A friend once told me that buffalo run toward the storm.
Instead of spending their energy trying to escape it, they move through it.
I have thought about that often.
Sometimes the only way out of something is through it.
We can avoid the conversation, delay the decision, or continue holding on to what feels familiar. But sometimes avoiding the storm only keeps us inside of it longer.
Sometimes life makes us uncomfortable because comfort has kept us in the same place for too long.
Maybe not every disruption is meant to break us.
Maybe some things become uncomfortable because it is time to move.
To change.
To speak.
To release.
To stop settling for what is familiar simply because it is familiar.
Sometimes the discomfort is the direction.
Sometimes the thing that feels like everything is falling apart is what finally gives us the courage to move toward something different.
And sometimes divine timing asks the opposite of us.
Sometimes it asks us to slow down.
To stop searching so hard for the next answer.
To stop looking so far ahead that we miss what is already right in front of us.
I found a dollar in the ocean.
It was small and easy to miss.
Had I been moving faster, looking farther ahead, focused on finding something better, or fighting the waves, I might not have seen it.
But there it was.
It was not life-changing. It did not solve a problem or answer a major question.
It was simply a small, unexpected thing that made me stop and pay attention.
And maybe that was the point.
Not every message arrives loudly.
Not every blessing has to change our whole life.
Sometimes divine timing asks us to run toward the storm.
And sometimes it asks us to stop fighting the waves long enough to notice what has washed up beside us.
Sometimes it makes us uncomfortable enough to move.
And sometimes it slows us down enough to notice.
Both can be guidance.
Both can be divine timing.
